SIGMOD/PODS Warm-up Session: Vector Databases - Pointing in the Right Direction?
Vector databases are rapidly becoming a core part of modern data systems, yet many of the most important questions are still wide open. What truly works in practice, and why? Which theoretical foundations and guarantees are still missing? Where do the real systems bottlenecks lie? And how should vector search connect with the broader data management stack?
Bringing together perspectives from theory, systems, and industry, this session will feature short talks and lively discussion aimed at surfacing the most exciting open problems and research opportunities in the area. Our goal is to spark exactly the kind of cross-cutting conversation that can help shape the future SIGMOD/PODS agenda around vector databases.
Join us for a high-dimensional cross-product of ideas on one of the most active and fast-evolving topics in data management.
When: Sunday, May 31, 5:30-7 pm (after the workshops end and before the PODS reception starts).
Participants: Ravishankar Krishnaswamy (Microsoft Research, India), Alexandra Meliou (UMass Amherst, USA), Yannis Papakonstantaniou (Google, USA), Yufei Tao (Chinese University of Hong Kong), TBD.
